What is a G402 Eye and Eye Swivel?

The G402 Eye and Eye Swivel is a high-load rigging hardware component designed to connect two points while allowing for 360-degree rotation. The surface is hot dipped galvanized, makes it corrosion resistance and ideal for permanent submerged. Its design features a eye on both ends, allowing for easy connection to shackles, thimbles, or directly to chain links.

The primary function of the G402 swivel is to facilitate rotation. In a static mooring line, torsional stresses can build up due to currents, wave action, and the movement of the floating structure. Without a swivel, this torque can cause lines to twist, kink, and ultimately weaken, leading to premature failure. The swivel eliminates these stresses by allowing the connected components to rotate freely and independently. This ensures that the mooring line remains in its optimal orientation, distributing loads evenly and preventing damage caused by twisting.

In marine aquaculture mooring system, eye and eye swivels are commonly used at the interface between the mooring line, chain or ropes and the buoy line, providing the necessary articulation for the buoy to weathervane and move naturally with the sea.
