Galvanized Master Link---Application in Aquaculture Mooring System


As we commonly know, Master Link (also commonly referred to as a Connection Link or collector ring) is a crucial hardware component in lifting and Rigging. It serves as the primary central connection point in a chain or wire rope sling assembly. It is a closed-loop device designed to gather multiple sling legs (from one to four) and connect them to a lifting hook, crane hook, or other rigging hardware. This allows for even load distribution and a stable connection during lifting operations.

While, do you know, master links are also commonly used in marine and aquaculture mooring system?


Briefly speaking, in the transition between the rope and the other components, it may be necessary to maintain a certain distance to avoid accidental collision and friction. We use a master link as distance spacer. The master link is pre-assemblied with rope thimble firstly, When manufacturing the rope thimble, we insert the produced master link into each other and assemble them to form a complete unit, this complete unit we call thimble and master link assembly. The thimble and master link assembly will be spliced in the terminal of ropes, serving to protect the rope from being worn. When the rope and other components, such as the anchor chain, are connected, we will use shackles to connect the connection link. This connection method is simple and can effectively prevent the cable from getting friction.

The load strength is a key factor to choose the size of master link, we need to guarantee the work load and breaking load are corresponding with the whole mooring system. Normally, the breaking load is 4 times of its work load. When it is used in the marine mooring system, the surface is hot dipped galvanized, considering its better resistance to seawater corrosion.
