A sea floating solar PV panel mooring system covers screw anchor, open link chains, polyester rope double braided, buoys and relative connection shackles and hardwares. Waysail provides the whole set of mooring system.

1. Screw Anchor( or Helical Anchor)

This is the foundational element that provides ultimate holding capacity by transferring the mooring loads deep into the seabed soil. Unlike traditional drag anchors or concrete blocks, screw anchors are installed by being rotated (screwed) into the seabed. This installation method causes minimal seabed disturbance.

2. Open Link Chain

The chain acts in two primary zones: the bottom chain (connected to the anchor) and the catenary chain (leading up to the float). The section of chain lying on the seabed connected directly to the screw anchor. Its significant weight provides a "catenary" effect. This natural sag acts as a shock absorber, dampening sudden dynamic loads from waves and wind by slowly lifting the chain off the seabed.

3. Polyester Rope Double Braided

This is a key component of the synthetic mooring line, connecting the heavy chain to the floating structure. It provides elasticity and strength with reduced weight. Polyester is the preferred material for permanent marine mooring due to its excellent properties. It has high strength, low creep (it doesn't stretch permanently over time under load), and good resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and abrasion. Most importantly, its elastic modulus is ideal—it stretches enough to absorb dynamic energy but not so much that it allows excessive movement of the platform.

When environmental forces (waves, wind, current) push the solar platform, the load is transferred through the mooring lines. The system is designed to absorb this energy gradually:

  • The elasticity of the polyester rope provides the first level of shock absorption.

  • The catenary of the chain provides the second level; as the load increases, the chain is lifted off the seabed, and its immense weight provides a restoring force.

  • The screw anchor, securely embedded in the seabed, provides the ultimate resisting force, preventing the entire system from drifting.
