Double Braided Polyester Rope
Double braided polyester rope is the industry standard for permanent and semi-permanent mooring systems due to its optimal combination of high strength, low stretch, durability, and handling. The dual-layer construction creates a synergistic relationship, the core provides the strength, while the cover ensures the core's longevity. The braid-on-braid design also makes it very resistant to hockling (the kinking that occurs in laid ropes) and allows it to lie flat.
In General Marine Mooring:
Permanent Mooring Pendants: The pendant is the line that connects a floating buoy to a heavy bottom chain and anchor. The low stretch of polyester ensures the buoy stays in place and doesn't allow the vessel to swing into danger.
Mooring Bridles: For larger vessels or multi-point moorings (e.g., for barges, workboats, or floating docks), a bridle made of double braided polyester distributes the load evenly and provides secure, static holding.
Dock Lines: While nylon is common for everyday dock lines, polyester is often used for long-term docking or in situations where minimal movement is critical, such as for research vessels tied alongside a pier where precise positioning is needed.
Anchor Rodes: It can be used as part of an anchor rode, typically in a combination with chain (a "chain-rope rode"). The chain provides weight to lower the pull angle and handle bottom abrasion, while the polyester rope provides elasticity and easier handling.
