ABS Buoy for Subsurface Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) Construction Project
FADs are structures that are used to aggregate fish to make them easier to catch while at the same time reducing the cost of fishing and making fishing more efficient.
FADs are made of one or several floats connected to an anchoring system with a mooring line . Aggregators, such as trawl net pieces, are distributed on the mooring line between the surface and a depth of approximately 30m(100ft).
When the current is strong, low or medium buoyancy FADs immerse at several hundred meters, their floats have to withstand the pressure of those depths. High pressure resistant floats are strongly recommended, our ABS buoy can withstand a depth of 1000m are well suited. We recommend our center hole abs buoy with varies size/buoyancy to meet your construction requirement.
Why Choose ABS Center Hole Floats for Your FADs?
1. ABS floats demonstrate exceptionally high impact strength and will not shatter or crack under the stresses encountered in open-ocean fishing operations.
2. The center hole design is where ABS floats reveal their full utility for FAD construction. This central aperture allows the float to be securely attached to ropes, lines, or chains without requiring additional brackets, loops, or fixtures. The rope system can pass directly through the hollow core, enabling the float to freely rotate and move along the attachment line, which reduces friction and minimizes abrasion on critical FAD components. This free-rotating design also prevents the netting or ropes from snagging on the buoy itself.
3. ABS floats operate effectively at depths exceeding 1,000 meters. This depth tolerance ensures reliable flotation regardless of where FADs drift or are anchored—from coastal shallows to the deepest industrial fishing grounds in the Western and Central Pacific.
