For aquaculture cage farming, the primary role of the EPS Foamed PE buoy is to provide upward buoyant force to specific components of the mooring grid. This counteracts the downward pull from anchors, weights, and the cage array itself, ensuring the entire network of ropes, chains, and connectors remains properly tensioned and in its designed geometric configuration.

By strategically placing buoys, operators can control and redistribute tension loads across the mooring lines. This prevents excessive stress from concentrating on any single point (like an anchor or a grid corner), enhancing the system's resilience.

In this project of our client, the buoys were deployed at the corners of the external mooring grid that surrounds the cage array. They provide the major uplift force needed to tension the grid lines(the perimeter lines connecting the anchors). Here, attached photos of the buoy under usage.

Advantages of EPS Foamed PE Buoys for Mooring

High Buoyancy Efficiency: Their low density provides maximum lift per unit volume, allowing for smaller or fewer buoys compared to less buoyant materials.

Durability in Harsh Environments: The rotational molded PE shell is highly resistant to UV degradation, corrosion, and physical impact from debris or servicing vessels. It protects the EPS core from water ingress, ensuring long-term buoyancy stability.

Low Maintenance & Long Life: Impervious to marine borers and rot, they require no painting or preservative treatments. Their service life often exceeds 10-15 years with minimal upkeep.

Cost-Effectiveness: The combination of low initial cost, minimal maintenance, and long lifespan offers a superior total cost of ownership for aquaculture operators.

Environmental Inertia: The materials are non-toxic and do not leach harmful substances, making them safe for the cultured species and the surrounding marine environment.
